India is about to take a big decision against Pakistan.
India-Pakistan Relations Escalate
Introduction:
India-Pakistan tensions have reached a boiling point in April 2025. Following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India-Pakistan diplomatic and military tensions have hit a latest high. Domestic and international reactions of both nations can be explained in this light.
Current Situation in India.
- Terrorist Attack in Pahalgam On 22nd April, 26 tourists were assassinated in a terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The 'The Resistance Front' claimed responsibility for the attack, which is thought to be a shadow cell of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (source).
- India's Response In retaliation to the attack, India has adopted a series of stern actions:Suspension of implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty. Sealing of the Attari border. Expulsion of Pakistani diplomats. Revocation of visas for Pakistani citizens. Placing other forces on the border. Moreover, the Indian Army has initiated mass operations along the frontier to find out the perpetrators (source).
- Diplomatic Initiatives Indian officials showed no less than 100 countries' observers in New Delhi evidence of the traditional backing by Pakistan of terrorist groups. However, to this day, there is no conclusive evidence (source).
Present Situation in Pakistan
- Countermeasures Against India In response to India's actions, Pakistan too has taken different steps: Expulsion of Indian diplomats. Suspension of trade relations with India. Closing of airspace to Indian flights. Threat to suspend bilateral agreements, e.g., the Simla Agreement (source).
- Internal Security Measures Pakistan conducted anti-terror raids along the Afghan border, killing 54 insurgents. 7 people were also killed in an explosion in South Waziristan.
Global Response
The United States has urged restraint by both countries and requested a responsible end to the crisis (source). China has also urged both countries to de-escalate tensions.
Conclusion
The present India-Pakistan conflict poses a major threat to South Asian stability. Both nations must exercise restraint and adopt diplomatic channels to ensure the lives and safety of ordinary citizens.
